Luxury coupe gives lovers of high power a sporting chance
from Bentley
The new Bentley Brooklands marks the company's return to the luxury-coupe market and reaffirms its reputation as creator of the world's most exclusive coupes. It is the ultimate Bentley: a stylish, four-seat, grand-touring coupe with classic British proportions and muscular performance.
"Bentley's proud sporting pedigree, forged by the exploits of the immortal 'Bentley Boys' on the famous Brooklands racetrack in the 1920s, was the inspiration for our new coupe, capturing all the style, power and splendor of that era," Bentley Chairman Franz-Josef Paefgen said.
Sporting design cues are matched by the performance of the Brooklands' Crewe-built engine, the most powerful V-8 the company has ever produced.
Each Brooklands coupe is hand-assembled with traditional coach-building techniques and the craftsmanship in wood and leather for which Bentley is renowned. To ensure exclusivity, production will be limited to 550 cars, with deliveries expected to start in the first half of 2008.
Its four-seat architecture and deeply bolstered seats lend the Brooklands' interior a sporting atmosphere, complemented by design accents such as aluminum foot pedals.
The interior designers sought to offer the highest levels of comfort and legroom, while the pillarless window design enhances the feeling of space.
The Brooklands' cabin is wider than the previous Bentley Continental R coupe -- by 10 percent in the rear -- and easily exceeds the interior leg, knee and head room of any luxury coupe on sale today. Individual rear seats have power-operated sliding cushions separated by a new center console.
The 530-horsepower engine generates maximum torque of 775 foot-pounds.
